Insurance for lost, stolen or damaged luggage

Luggage insurance covers damage caused to luggage and insured contents in the event of theft, robbery, damage, destruction or loss during travel.

Luggage insurance protects your luggage against theft, robbery, damage, destruction and loss during travel. In the event of a claim, your luggage insurance will cover you if luggage, insured contents or personal effects are stolen, lost or damaged.

The cardholder benefits from insurance cover (main, second, additional and partner cards), as do dependants living in the same household, i.e. the spouse or partner as well children up to the age of 25.

The following prerequisites must be met for the insurance to provide cover:

  • Damage, loss, robbery (theft involving threatened or actual use of violence against the insured person), destruction or theft of/to luggage during travel.

  • The claim has been reported to the competent authority.

  • The trip is private in nature and lasts no more than 45 days.

  • A valid Viseca credit card or using the credit option of a combined payment card was used to cover at least 60% of the costs of the trip.

The following maximum insured amount applies:

  • CHF 5,000 per card and year: World Mastercard Flex Gold (credit option), World Mastercard Gold, Visa Gold and Flying Blue World Mastercard

There is no excess.

The insurance cover applies to private holiday trips that last no more than 45 days. The trip begins when you leave your place of residence and ends when you return to your place of residence. The trip must consist of an outward and return journey and include an overnight stay.

Personal effects are personal items that you have with you, e.g. in your hand luggage or your trouser pocket. Hold luggage does not count as personal effects.

In the event of a claim, you are obliged to limit the damage as much as possible. In the event of theft, loss, damage or destruction to/of your luggage during carriage via public transport, please contact the carrier immediately to discuss how to proceed and to obtain written confirmation. You must report any theft immediately to the local police. Send us the claim documentation in full.

In order for us to check your entitlement to a refund, you must send the following documentation to the address indicated on the claim form:

  • Fully completed claim form

  • Proof that a valid Viseca credit card or using the credit option of a combined payment card was used to cover at least 60% of the costs of the trip (copy of monthly invoice)

  • All booking and reservation confirmations related to the trip

  • Original sales receipts

  • Carrier’s damage report

Additionally depending on the loss event:

  • Theft: police report

  • Damage/destruction: repair bill or estimate.

On the claim form, list all items (pieces of luggage and their contents) that have been stolen, lost or damaged, and specify their purchase price. Enclose all sales receipts with the claim documentation.

In order to reimburse you, the insurer needs to see all the receipts that prove that you purchased the items in question. Therefore, please keep your sales receipts in a safe place.

Please contact the carrier first. If the carrier does not settle your claim in full, the insurance on your Viseca card will come into effect.

No. The insurance does not cover the theft of luggage from hire or private vehicles. Check whether your household or hire car insurance provide any cover.

No. There is no cover for damage resulting from the items being forgotten, left behind or mislaid. Please also note that watches and jewellery are excluded from insurance protection.

Insured valuables and their accessories must be kept under lock and key (suitcase, cabinet, safe) in a locked room with restricted access when they are not being used or worn. The method of safekeeping in all cases must be appropriate to the value of the item.

  • Watches and jewellery

  • Cash, travel tickets, subscriptions, credit cards and securities

  • Smartphones (if you do not have these on your person); cover for electronic devices is restricted to a maximum of CHF 2,000 per insured event

  • Theft from a private or hire vehicle

  • Leaving items lying around, even briefly, in public places where you are no longer directly supervising them yourself

  • Damage resulting from the items being forgotten, left behind or mislaid
